Paul Ponnudorai
"A man who is quite possibly the greatest music interpreter of our times”
Liam Fitzpatrick - TIME Magazine
Shawn Letts
was born and bred in Oklahoma, but rebelled early against country music in favour of jazz and R&B. Shawn had a low-key live music career in Dallas with the saxophone and keyboards as his favoured instruments, before travelling to Singapore with a cover band in 1988. He has lived here pretty much ever since, inspired by Singapore, musically and otherwise. Over the years, he has travelled across most of Asia as a live musician (Shawn played China a long time before the Stones did!). Working for a recording studio as a composer-arranger-producer for 12 of his Singapore years, he has collaborated with many of Asia’s best musicians, as well as started his own world music group, Transformasi. During that time, he accumulated an impressive list of awards and accolades including winning Second place, World Music category of the 2006 Billboard World Song. These days, Shawn is enjoying his live playing more than ever before, and says he will never stop writing or recording music.
Anjana Srinivasan
is the petite but powerful blues-loving vocal sensation that fronts the band. A recent graduate from the National University of Singapore, she has performed in two Singapore arts festival productions. It was her love for the music of artistes such as BB King, Bessie Smith and Muddy Waters that inspired her to start singing. Since 2007, she has teamed up with slide guitarist Victor Chen to sing traditional blues and folk music. Their band, Malted Milk won the Stripped Showcase best band competition and performs regularly at the Old Brown Shoe. She also sings acoustic blues with guitarist Gregory Leow, and the two have performed for both the NUS arts Festival and Esplanade Live music series.
Robert Nalin
is a well-respected drummer who is much sought after for his Latin jazz, funk, fusion, rock, pop, reggae and R&B groove. He is also well known for his balance of technical precision with innovative and stylized grooves. Robert has previously played with Paul Ponnudorai together with Ignatius Bong on bass, as a trio. He started playing in a rock band as a teenager with fellow schoolmates Michael and Nicholas DeSilva and a well-known local singer/writer, Mel Ferdinands. During the 1980s, he widened his repertoire by playing pop and rock music in various bands throughout Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan. The experience gained from playing and performing with such a variety of different bands in the region has exposed Robert to many different styles of music. In 1995, Robert was invited to play with The Gypsy Kings for their concert here in Singapore at the Harbour Pavilion. Recently, he directed, produced and performed for the Beat The Rhythm ’09 concert at the Australian International School Singapore.
Eddie Jansen
started work at age 15 at Ritz Bar in Tanjong Pagar and never looked back. He has spent 45 years playing at well-known bars in Singapore including the original Saxophone Bar at Cuppage Terrace & Jockey Pub in Shaw Centre. He has covered all genres of music from pop and R & B to jazz and blues with both local & international artistes including: Ernie Watts, Ernest Ranglin, Dennis Chambers, O’Donel Levy, Iskandar Ismail, Louis Soliana
and Jeremy Monteiro. After having spent his life playing music in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan, there is not much in the world of live music that Eddie hasn’t seen, heard, done or played.
