 Live music is not dead!!
It was only taking a break between sets.
For those fans of live music who remember the good times and great nights at legendary venues as The Saxophone Bar or Anywhere, there is now a hot new sound in town, a place where the beat hits the street.
In its heyday Saxaphone at Cuppage was an icon on the live music scene, driven by a guitar playing O’Donnel Levy. Sadly as a venue it disappeared in the “redevelopment” of Cuppage Terrace. Anywhere, with Tania at the forefront was also a successful live outlet until the band split up in 2005. Swing opened its doors in 2003 with the mercurial Paul Ponnadurai, in the driving seat; however, it ended its run in 2006. Since then there has been dearth of friendly pubs or bars that feature quality musicians.
All is not lost! Reports of the death of live music have been greatly exaggerated; the latest venue for live music in Singapore is LiVE! @ Bojangles, located just off Orchard Road in the basement of Tanglin Shopping Centre. With the music centred on Paul Ponnudurai and managed by The Bojangles Group, LiVE! @ Bojangles promises a powerful musical line-up, a veritable “Who’s Who” of local and regional talent.
Since the demise of Saxophone bar, Anywhere and Swing, Singapore has lacked a true blue live entertainment outlet. Bojangles and its concept of neighbourhood bars has built a strong customer base since its inception in 1996 and is now moving into the area of live entertainment. LiVE! @ Bojangles is a purpose-built venue that features a wide mix of music that no one plays in Singapore, such as 60s/70s Motown, R&B, funk. |
